I saw the moon come up tonight	
so clear and bright in the sky	
somehow it looked so lonely
it made me want to cry	
I think I'll watch an old movie 
and drink me a bottle of wine
unplug my telephone
and lay in my bed and cry

I tried to read a newspaper
that was a big mistake
there were 17 wars, 5 bombings, 3 murders,
an invasion and an earthquake
So I picked up a Hustler magazine
to try to take my mind off my mind
the cartoons weren't even funny
and the pictures made me cry

So I picked up my old guitar
that's another thing I done wrong
it bummed me out completely
I didn't know any sad songs
so I thought up some words and I thought up some chords
and I played them till they sounded all right
I played this stupid song over and over 
until it made me cry
