Leave the Circus JT Moring © 1995 * They give me all the peanuts & the popcorn I can eat But still it's time to leave the circus The costumes look real ratty right up close Missin' half their sequins & patched with ribbons & bows When I left home, I thought it was gonna be fun But now I've tried I've found I'm havin' none I wanta go home * I'm sleepin' with the animals & acrobats & freaks My god it's time to leave the circus The tigers pace silently in their cage All they know is guns & whips & hate When I left home, I thought it was gonna be fun But I never imagined an elephant with the runs I wanta go home *** My old home never looked so good to me The further I go the clearer I can see Tell Mom & Dad I'm on my way back home Tell Mary Jo I'll call her on the phone *** They make me scrape the chewingum from underneath the seats I swear I'm gonna leave the circus The ringmaster & the strongman are actin' weird The only girl my age has got a beard When I left home, I thought it was gonna be fun But the very next chance I get I'm gonna run I wanta go home * I hope you can appreciate this ain't the life for me Now I'm gonna leave the circus Maybe I can hop a westbound train I'm going home before I go insane When I left home, I thought it was gonna be fun Here I am the time has finally come I'm going home
